How to properly scan QR codes on Android and iPhone

For Android users

Using the Camera app
  • Open the Camera app: Launch the default camera app on your Android device.
  • Position the camera: Hold your device steadily and aim the camera at the QR code. Ensure the QR code is fully visible within the camera frame.
  • Wait for detection: The camera will automatically recognize the QR code. A notification or link will appear on the screen.
  • Tap the notification: Click on the notification or link to open the associated content.
Using Google Lens
  • Open Google Lens: If your camera app doesn’t recognize QR codes, open Google Lens. You can access it through the Google Assistant or the Google Photos app.
  • Scan the QR code: Aim the camera at the QR code and hold your device steady.
  • View the content: Google Lens will recognize the QR code and display a link or information. Tap on the link to proceed.
Using third-party apps
  • Download a QR scanner app: If your device doesn’t have built-in QR scanning capabilities, download a reliable QR code scanner from the Google Play Store.
  • Open the app and scan: Launch the app, allow necessary permissions, and scan the QR code following the app’s instructions.

For iPhone users

Using the Camera app
  • Open the Camera app: Launch the default camera app on your iPhone.
  • Position the camera: Hold your device steadily and aim the camera at the QR code, ensuring it is centered within the frame.
  • Wait for detection: The camera will automatically detect the QR code, and a notification banner will appear at the top of the screen.
  • Tap the banner: Click on the notification banner to open the associated content.
Using Control Center
  • Add QR Code Reader to Control Center: Go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls, then add the QR Code Reader.
  • Open the QR Code Reader: Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen (on iPhone X and later) or swipe up from the bottom edge (on iPhone 8 and earlier) to open Control Center. Tap the QR Code Reader icon.
  • Scan the QR Code: Position your camera over the QR code to scan it. Follow the on-screen instructions to view the content.
Using third-party apps
  • Download a QR scanner app: If preferred, download a trusted QR code scanner from the App Store.
